چکیده

The Peskin model [1] is a simple but seminal model to study networks of interacting agents, such as pacemaker cells of the heart or neurons. Each agent corresponds to an oscillator whose state variable xi evolves according to the dynamics ẋi = F(xi) > 0 between two threshold values. Upon reaching the upper threshold, the state is reset to the lower threshold — the oscillator is said to fire. The coupling is defined as follows: whenever an oscillator fires, it emits a pulse which instantaneously increases by ε > 0 the state of every other oscillators.

Synchronization of pulse-coupled oscillators to a global pacemaker

Pulse-coupled oscillators (PCOs) are limit cycle oscillators coupled by exchanging pulses at discrete time instants. Their importance in biology and engineering has motivated numerous studies aiming to understand the basic synchronization properties of a network of PCOs. In this work, we study synchronization of PCOs subject to a global pacemaker (or global cue) and local interactions between s...

Global analysis of a continuum model for pulse-coupled oscillators

We consider phase oscillators on the circle interacting through an impulsive instantaneous coupling. In contrast with previous studies on related pulse-coupled models, global stability results are obtained in the continuum limit. For the nonlinear transport equation governing the evolution of the oscillators, we propose (under technical assumptions) a global Lyapunov function which is induced b...

Universality of synchrony: critical behavior in a discrete model of stochastic phase-coupled oscillators.

We present the simplest discrete model to date that leads to synchronization of stochastic phase-coupled oscillators. In the mean field limit, the model exhibits a Hopf bifurcation and global oscillatory behavior as coupling crosses a critical value. When coupling between units is strictly local, the model undergoes a continuous phase transition which we characterize numerically using finite-si...

Synchronization of weakly perturbed Markov chain oscillators.

Rate processes are simple and analytically tractable models for many dynamical systems that switch stochastically between a discrete set of quasistationary states; however, they may also approximate continuous processes by coarse-grained, symbolic dynamics. In contrast to limit-cycle oscillators that are weakly perturbed by noise, in such systems, stochasticity may be strong, and topologies mor...

Anomalous Synchronization of Integrate-and-Fire Oscillators with Global Coupling

We study an infinite assembly of integrate and fire oscillators with global coupling. Numerical simulations reveal that the time required for the mutual synchrony of all the oscillators exhibits singular behavior as a function of the interaction strength. The origin of this anomalous synchronization is elucidated by a theoretical analysis. Synchronization is one of the most fascinating nonlinea...
